The Lives That Pass Under Yellow Lights

There is something about yellow street lights after sunset that makes life look less demanding.
The same road that carries people rushing to work in the morning turns into a place where someone is walking home after a long shift, a student is returning to their hostel with earphones on, an auto passes by without a destination worth remembering, and a tea shop is serving one last cup before closing.
Life doesn't stop.
It simply feels lighter.
The strange part is that nothing has actually changed.
The assignments are still waiting. The unread messages are still there. Someone is still trying to figure out their career. Someone is rehearsing tomorrow's conversation in their head. Someone is pretending they're okay while walking home with a backpack that feels heavier than it should.
Yet those yellow lights convince the heart to slow down for a while.
There is comfort in knowing that not everyone walking those streets has everything figured out.
The girl laughing into her phone could have cried an hour ago.
The man buying chai could be returning from a twelve-hour shift.
The student waiting for the bus could be carrying the weight of an entire future in one backpack.
Life keeps happening in ordinary clothes.
No background music or perfect timing.
Just people trying again the next morning.
The older I grow, the more I realise peace rarely arrives after everything falls into place.
It appears in tiny moments that almost escape notice.
The first sip of hot coffee after a tiring day.
A familiar song during a bus ride.
A call from home that lasts five minutes longer than expected.
Yellow streets after sunset reminding everyone that another day has passed, and another one will arrive.
Still, the world keeps its lights on for people who are still finding their way home.
