the little things I didn’t know were saving me

I think one of the saddest things is how we slowly stop doing the very things that were quietly keeping us okay… and we don’t even realize it until we start feeling like we’re falling apart. Like… it’s never sudden, you know? You don’t just wake up one day and decide to lose yourself. It’s softer than that. You just stop writing for a while. Stop praying like you used to. Stop reading, stop creating, stop doing the random little things that made your mind feel less heavy. You tell yourself you’re just tired, or busy, or you’ll get back to it later… but later becomes days, and days become months, and suddenly you’re sitting there wondering why everything feels so loud. Why your thoughts feel heavier. Why you feel more sensitive, more restless, more affected by everything. And maybe it’s because we never noticed that those small things....those quiet little habits, those personal rituals, those tiny pieces of ourselves...were actually holding us together in ways bigger things never could. Like writing wasn’t “just writing.” It was an outlet. Praying wasn’t “just prayer.” It was comfort. Creating wasn’t “just a hobby.” It was a way back to myself. And when I stopped doing those things, I didn’t immediately break… I just became easier to break. Easier to overthink. Easier to depend on temporary things, temporary people, temporary distractions. That’s the scary part, I think… how vulnerable we become when we drift away from ourselves without noticing. Because sometimes it’s not heartbreak or failure that makes us feel lost… sometimes it’s simply abandoning the parts of us that kept us grounded. The familiar things. The things that made us feel like home to ourselves. And healing isn’t always about becoming a whole new person or fixing every broken part all at once… ig sometimes, it’s just about returning. Returning to the little things that made life feel calmer before the world got too loud.
