Womanhood, a Desi Love Letter
Oh, how I love being a woman.
yeh realisation bilkul randomly aa jaata hai. Jaise bas kisi se baat ho rahi ho ....“kal kya pehne?” “kurti ya jeans?” “jhumkas ya simple studs?” Aur uss conversation ke beech hi you realise how comforting all of this is. No pressure. No competition. Bas ek comforting space jahan sab normal lagta hai.
Being a woman lives in these choti choti cheezein. Mirror ke saamne thoda zyada ruk jaana, not because you’re insecure, but because you’re deciding how you want to feel today. Lipstick lagaana even when you’re not stepping out. Bangles pehenna sirf unki awaaz ke liye. Bindi thodi si tedhi ho, phir bhi theek lagti hai. It’s not about looking perfect. It’s about feeling settled.
Desi womanhood has its own calm. Cotton kurtis jo body pe halka sa feel hoti hain. Dupattas jo kabhi properly set nahi hoti but phir bhi saath rehti hain. Juttis jo thoda sa hurt karti hain, but still feel familiar. Yeh fashion nahi hai ..yeh comfort hai. Ghar jaisa lagna hai...
Aur phir hai woh natural romanticising of life. Old Hindi songs background mein chal rahe hote hain while you’re cleaning your room. Shah Rukh Khan ke purane movies jahan logic se zyada feelings matter karti hain. Baarish ka matlab chai. Chai ka matlab thodi der chup chaap baithna. Even normal days feel a little cinematic, bina koshish ke.
Being a woman also means feeling thoda zyaada Silence notice kar lena. Small things yaad rakhna. Care karna without making noise about it. Kabhi-kabhi yeh heaviness ban jaata hai, haan. Emotions bina warning aa jaate hain.
Of course, sab days cute nahi hote. Period days hote hain. Bloating. Bad skin. Random tiredness. Days when you feel powerful, and days when an oversized t-shirt is all you can handle. Strong banna aur thoda soft rehna ...dono ek saath. Thoda confusing, exhausting hai.but very real.
Slowly you learn that rest needs no justification. Care is not laziness. Oil lagana, skincare, journaling, prayer ..... yeh sab “extra” nahi hai. Yeh grounding hai.
Oh, how I love being a woman.
Not because it’s easy.
But because it’s layered.
Emotional.
Desi.
Warm.
Unpolished.
The jhumkas.
The kurtis.
The old songs.
The feeling of home.
This isn’t too much or silly.
This is womanhood ....
And honestly… it’s beautiful.
