When I Stopped Rehearsing Life

I came across this term randomly ....... like most things that end up meaning a lot to me.

It wasn’t in a book. Or a lecture. Or some serious productivity podcast. It was just… there. In between scrolling, overthinking, and trying to plan my life like a project that needs to be perfectly optimised.

The idea is simple (almost too simple): Stop over‑optimising your life. Just do things. Go for it.

Not everything needs to sound smart. Not everything needs to be strategic. Not everything needs to lead somewhere impressive.

Sometimes you just show up. Sometimes you do things badly. Sometimes you don’t have the right words, the right timing, the right aesthetic, or the right confidence. And you do it anyway.

I think we’re all exhausted from trying to be the best version of ourselves. The most productive. The most healed. The most put‑together. The most talented.

Every choice feels like it needs a return on investment. Every habit needs to improve us. Every day needs to prove something.

But this idea quietly says ..... what if you didn’t?

What if you lived a little unoptimised? What if you didn’t wait to feel ready? What if you stopped rehearsing life in your head and actually participated in it?

You might not sound very smart. You might not ace everything. You might not have a clear five‑year plan. You might mess up, change your mind, look confused, start again.

But you’ll be moving. And movement matters more than perfection.

I’ve realised most of my life happened when I wasn’t prepared. When I just went. When I said yes without fully knowing. When I tried even though I was scared.

Not everything became a success story. But everything became a life story.

There’s something very gentle about allowing yourself to be ordinary while still showing up. About choosing experience over optimisation. About letting days be messy, slow, boring .... and still good.

So maybe I like this idea because it gives me permission. To stop tightening my grip. To stop overthinking every step. To stop waiting to become someone else.

Just me. As I am. Doing things. Trying. Learning. Living.

No grand conclusion. No lesson neatly tied with a bow. Just this quiet reminder:

You don’t have to optimise your life to deserve it. Sometimes, you just go for it.
