The kind of pretty that stays with you

I don’t know when exactly it started, but lately I’ve been falling in love with old things in a way that feels almost strange… but also very comforting. Not old as in “vintage aesthetic Pinterest board,” but genuinely old ...buildings that have lived, streets that have seen way more life than I ever have, doors that look like they’ve been opened and closed by so many different people with their own stories.

I felt it properly only when I went to Pondy. I wasn’t expecting anything special, honestly. But the moment I stepped into those quiet lanes, something in me just ....idek how to explain...I felt calm. The buildings looked like they were frozen somewhere in time, like they didn’t care about the rush of the world outside. Soft colours, simple shapes, windows that had this old-world charm… everything felt so peaceful in a way I didn’t know I needed.

There was something about those streets .... how calm they were, how the sunlight fell on the walls, how even the silence felt warm. I remember walking slowly, not even thinking about where I was going… just taking in the feeling of being in a place that didn’t demand anything from me. It honestly felt like entering a different world, one where everything moved a little slower and breathed a little deeper.

And I think that feeling stayed with me. Now I find myself drawn to things that remind me of that ... writing letters even when I don’t plan to send them to anyone, listening to old songs that make me imagine lives I’ve never lived, staring at pictures of old French-style buildings as if they’re calling me back. There’s something about the way those places exist… quietly, confidently, without needing to be loud. I love that.

Pondy made me feel something I can’t properly explain ... like I belonged in a place like that, where everything feels gentle and thoughtful. A place where you can sit on a random bench or step and just exist without feeling out of place. I loved how unhurried the atmosphere was, how even the colours felt calmer, how every corner had its own personality without trying too hard.

It made me imagine what life would be like if I actually lived in a place like that. Waking up to soft morning light, walking through familiar old streets, writing letters on quiet afternoons, listening to songs that make everything feel a little more cinematic. It’s such a simple kind of happiness, but it’s one that filled me completely when I was there.

Maybe one day I will live in a place like that ...maybe...maybe not... something slow, old, and beautifully peaceful. Until then, I’m carrying that feeling with me. That gentle, dreamy happiness Pondy gave me… like a reminder that there are places in the world where I feel at home without even trying.....
