A Regular Wednesday

Okay sooooooooo today was one of those random days that start with zero expectations but end up feeling like a  little movie all rolled into one.

So basically, I woke up at 8 because my parents were leaving for work, and my mom ...my literal softie queen... woke me up just to say, “Eat everything I made, okay?” before running out the door. She’d already made breakfast, lunch, and coffee. Like mam, who gave you this level of dedication?? 😭

I was barely conscious, nodded for everything she said, locked the door, and immediately went back to sleep. Cut to two hours later ...I woke up at 10, sunlight hitting my face like “get up, lazy human.”

The weather? Ughhhh. Perfection. That rare combo of sunshine and a tiny bit of chill that makes you wanna live your life like a Pinterest board...... I was wearing my mom’s old maxi, hair clipped up(basically a bird's nest), walked barefoot in our garden and fed the birds that come every morning and evening. Not our pets, but my dad’s been feeding them for years, so they just… come. Like “oh yeah, breakfast at the Johns’.” It’s cute.

Anyway, I reheated the coffee mom made (because I don’t make new coffee when there’s existing love in the kitchen 🩷) and sat outside with my cup, just existing. Which quickly turned into overthinking, obviously. Because what else would Soumya do???sike.

Then out of nowhere, I had this random urge to wash all my clothes before going back to hostel in a few days. And like a complete clown, I just grabbed a bucket and started hand-washing everything on the stone slab.....completely forgetting we own a washing machine 💁‍♀️. I swear hostel life rewired my brain.

And while doing all that, I had Gulabo blasting on my speaker. Volume? FULL. Like even the crows in the next street were probably like, “Bro, she’s back.” My neighbours know the soundtrack of my life at this point 💀.

Then I went upstairs, hung all the clothes, came down, and just… watched Best of Luck Nikki. Then Shinchan. While eating dosa and sambar. The holy trinity of serotonin 😭. Honestly, that’s why moving to Chennai was never a struggle ... I was already built for idli-dosa-sambar survival.

Then I got distracted and started digging through my old journals from school. Bro. When I tell you younger me was a full-time drama production 😭😭. I had like 15 diaries filled with poems, doodles, and deep life quotes like “never give up because the stars don’t” (what was I even ON 💀). But it was cute. That girl had fire. She didn’t care who was watching. She wrote, dreamed, and believed the smallest things were magic. I miss her sometimes.

then i tried crochet for the first time… lost my patience exactly seven times, fought with the yarn twice, and almost threw the hook once ...but somehow ended up making these reallyyy cute lil bows. like honestly, were they a little lopsided? yes. did i still act like i invented art? also yes. Will anyone approve this art?NOPE...

Then ... because my brain runs on chaos ....I suddenly decided to watch paranormal investigation videos on YouTube 😭. Fully scared, but also fully invested. I was literally jumping at every sound like “ghost? no just wind? okay cool."

After that little horror marathon, I went upstairs to collect the clothes, tried on a few old ones just for the drama, and ended up learning a dance in front of the mirror. I don’t even know how this happens but if there’s music, my body goes “it’s showtime" 💃🏽.

Then came shower time ... aka concert time. I sang full besura Bollywood hits like I was headlining a world tour. The soap was my mic. Shampoo bottle...backup vocals. If you’ve never screamed “Tera Hone Laga Hoon” while bathing, you haven’t lived.

Post that, I had the most heavenly lunch (mom’s cooking never misses) and then suddenly the weather flipped. That perfect moody, grey, wind-blowing, about-to-rain vibe. You know????The kind that feels cinematic for no reason....

So obviously, I grabbed my scooter keys and went for a small ride. Nothing major, just around my area. Wind in my hair, sky turning darker, and that weird calm where you feel like you’re inside your own little music video. By the time it started raining, I was smiling like a psycho.

I came home drenched, made another cup of coffee (my bloodstream is 90% caffeine at this point), and sat outside. Katputli Ke Dhaage playing  in the background, rain drizzling, the smell of wet earth, coffee steam rising .... it was just… Mmuahhh

And it hit me ... how rarely we just exist without rushing. Like, when you’re younger, you dream of big things ....big success, big moments. But growing up teaches you that happiness sometimes looks like a normal Wednesday at home with coffee, rain, and your mom’s food waiting inside.

Later, my parents came back from work, and the house filled up with that warm chaos again .... pressure cooker whistles, my dad’s jokes, mom’s voice from the kitchen, my sister video calling, random TV noises. And somehow, everything felt exactly where it was supposed to be.

It wasn’t a “productive” day. It wasn’t aesthetic in the influencer way.

And honestly?

If peace had a playlist ....today would be track one.
