The Cost Of One Mistake

It’s strange how one small mistake can make you question everything about yourself.

Not a life-shattering, world-ending mistake. Just a wrong turn. A moment of carelessness. An "oops" that cost money, time, and a whole lot of self-confidence. That’s all it takes some days ... one tiny moment...to suddenly feel like you’ve failed at being an adult, a daughter, a person.

People say it’s okay. That mistakes happen. That one form, one slip, one rushed decision doesn’t define you. But why does it feel like it does?

Why does it feel like everything you've worked for, everything you've held together with duct tape and prayers, might just fall apart now?

I’ve always been the overthinker. The one who triple-checks everything, who holds her breath while doing even the smallest things. So when I mess up, it doesn’t feel like “oops.” It feels like proof. Proof that I’m not capable. That I'm still the same scared girl who never knows what she's doing, who always depends on someone else to fix the mess.

And maybe no one says that out loud. But my mind does. Loud and clear.

The worst part? It’s about the guilt. The kind that eats at you when you know that your parents never say anything to hurt you — and that’s exactly what hurts more. When they scold you, it’s sharp and quick. But when they hug you and say “it’s okay,” your chest tightens because you know you disappointed them, and they’re choosing to love you anyway.

I wanted to scream “I’m sorry.”

I wanted to rewind.

I wanted to be anyone else but the girl who came home crying over something stupid.

It’s funny, isn't it? How one wrong move can unravel all the confidence you’ve spent months building.

Suddenly I’m questioning everything.

Will I get into college?

Will I ever get a job?

Will I ever make it anywhere?

What if I keep making mistakes like this?

What if I'm not built for this whole life thing?

You start dreaming big ... and then one small error makes you feel like you're not even qualified to exist in a dream.

I know I’ll get over this. I always do. I know I’ll find something to laugh about, maybe even write about (like this). But in this moment, I just want to sit in the heaviness. Because pretending it’s fine when it’s not...that’s something I’m tired of doing.

Maybe this blog doesn’t have a message. Maybe it doesn’t end in sunshine and redemption. Maybe this is just the part where I admit I feel stupid. That I’m scared. That I'm tired of being strong and tired of always bouncing back.

So I’ll sit here, in my guilt, in my anxiety, in this weight that feels a little too heavy today.

And maybe that's okay too.
