Escapism - My Favourite Hobby, My Worst Habit
There’s a reason I daydream so much. There’s a reason I romanticize train rides, slow rains, terrace sunsets, and coffee like it’s a religion. It’s not just cute Pinterest stuff ....it’s survival.
See, when life throws too much at me (and trust me, it does), I run. Not literally. I don’t run. I overthink, cry a little, drink coffee, stare at the wall like I’m in a music video, maybe clean my room aggressively .... and call it coping. That’s my escapism.
Sometimes I disappear into memories. Sometimes into my phone gallery .... full of screenshots, old convos, and blurry pictures I’m weirdly attached to. Sometimes into random scenarios where things turned out better ....like that one conversation I should have had. That one person who could have stayed. Or maybe just into a playlist that hits way too hard.
And ya, I know it's not the healthiest thing. I know I'm supposed to “stay present” and “face my issues” and “build habits” and all. But tell me how, when half the time it feels like I'm floating through a life that's moving too fast and people who don’t stay?
So ya. I escape. Into chai stalls and terrace walks. Into texting people who feel like home. Into songs that say what I can't. Into small, perfect moments that make me feel like maybe I can do this life thing. Maybe.
I guess escapism isn’t always about running away. Sometimes, it’s just me building a soft corner in my own mind where things are okay. Not perfect. But okay.
So here’s to that escape.
To the coffee that tastes like safety.
To the rain that hides my spiral.
To the conversations I replay in my head.
To the moments that save me, when I don't even realize I need saving.
And maybe, just maybe, I’ll come back stronger after each escape. Or at least... more rested.
