The Unseen Strain

Friendship isn’t always the easy ride we hope for, especially when life starts shifting in ways we don’t expect. You know that feeling when everything just feels… off? Your friends aren’t texting as much, you’re no longer making the effort, and suddenly, things feel distant. It’s like, out of nowhere, your friendship goes from being a daily thing to a “Hey, how’ve you been?” after weeks of silence.

It’s not like people mean to distance themselves, right? Everyone’s dealing with their own stuff ... school, family, work, whatever. But when they don’t check in like they used to, it stings. Expectations in friendships can be killer. You think you’ll always be there for each other, but then, slowly, the calls stop coming, and the messages get fewer. And that messes with you. You start to wonder, “Am I the only one still invested?”

And then there’s the guilt. You don’t want to seem selfish, but part of you can’t help but feel hurt. Why can’t they be there when you need them? But life’s tough, and sometimes, your friends are just… not in the space to give you what you need. And that doesn’t make them bad people, it just makes them people dealing with their own battles.

At some point, though, you have to decide: Do you keep putting in all the effort and end up feeling drained? Or do you pull back a little, let them breathe, and focus on what’s best for you? Friendship isn’t a one-way street, and it’s okay to stop chasing. If it’s meant to work, it’ll come back. If not, maybe it’s time to let it go.
