Not Starting Over, But Starting Again

Nobody tells you how strange it feels when one chapter ends and the next hasn’t properly begun. It’s like standing in the hallway with packed bags and heart full of “what next?” Everything you knew...your routines, your safe people, your 4 PM chai spot....suddenly feels far away. And you’re left relearning how to be… you.

Higher studies, new cities, new people...they sound exciting in theory. But in reality? It’s you, a suitcase, some awkward small talk, and endless questions like “Where are you from?” or “You don’t look like a Mallu!” You smile, say your name, and quietly wonder where the heck you belong now.

Sometimes, you miss the comfort of old friends, that one voice note from your bestie that could fix any bad day. You miss your messy room, your mom's rants, even the background noise of your sibling yelling on the phone. Homesickness doesn’t knock...it just walks in and sits with you like an old friend.

But here’s the beautiful part: it gets better.

One day, you’ll laugh with a new friend over hot samosas in the canteen. You'll find a spot on campus that just feels right. You’ll get used to the bed, the noise, the new rhythm of life. You’ll realize you're not alone in feeling lost....most people are just figuring it out silently.

And somewhere between all the mess and madness, you’ll grow.

You’ll become the someone who carries themself with a little more grace, who knows when to walk away and when to hold on. You’ll still miss home, but you’ll start building new versions of “home” in random cafes, in hugs from new people, and in the soft glow of fairy lights at 11 PM when you’re deep in thoughts and assignments.

You’ll start appreciating the little things...mlike your favorite pen, the mess uncle who gives you extra curry, the way the wind feels during your evening walk. And slowly, the ache of the old chapter fades into something sweet.

This phase? It's not the end. It’s just the beginning of something more you. The life you’re walking into might feel unfamiliar, but it's also full of chances to start again. With new friendships, new memories, and a version of you that’s stronger, softer, wiser.

So take a deep breath, babe. Let the old go gently. The new is coming—and it's going to be so, so good.
