From Mess to Mera Mehfil – A Love Letter to My Room
Dear Room,
I don’t say this often, but I know, I know ....I leave you messy half the time, forget to fold my bedsheet, and keep promising I'll organise that one table that's now basically a dumping ground for all my emotional and physical baggage. But you're still here, na? Waiting, warm, quiet. Like a clingy lover who doesn't complain.
You’ve seen it all. The midnight breakdowns, the happy hauls after shopping sprees, the random dance sessions when no one’s home. You’ve been the audience to my award-winning mirror performances, the witness to all my dramatic “I’m leaving everything and running away” phases ... only to return ten minutes later for chai.
You know the way I talk to myself when I’m overthinking? Yeah, sorry for making you listen to my hourly monologues. You're basically my therapist with fairy lights. The number of times I’ve cried into my pillow and whispered “I can’t do this” ... and yet, every single time, I found the strength again, right here between your four walls.
You hold all my phases ... the Pinterest-core one with cute corners and aesthetic mugs, the “I hate everything” phase where I wanted to move out, the emotionally exhausted semester vibes, and the current “main thak gayi hoon but still slay” season. Through all of it, you stayed soft. Safe. Familiar.
Your windows have seen more versions of me than any human ever will. My old school uniforms, the saree trials before fests, the oversized T-shirts I wear on sad days, and the earrings I throw everywhere but never find when I need them.
You're not just a room. You're my bubble. My stage. My hiding spot. My little desi Pinterest board that smells like moisturiser, agarbatti, and hair oil.
So here's to you ___
For being more patient than my WiFi,
More comforting than mom’s sambar,
And more accepting than any crush I’ve ever had.
One day I’ll leave you for some hostel room, PG corner, or maybe even another city. But you? You’ll always be home.
Love,
The chaotic girly who lives in you (and sometimes under the blanket for 5 hours straight)
