For The Ones Who Slowly Fade

Some days, it hits me randomly .... how quiet things get when people start living lives that no longer include you in the same way. Not because of a fight. Not because they stopped caring overnight. Just… change. Quiet, subtle, heartbreaking change.

And it’s not like you expect them to call every hour or update you on every move. But it’s the small things... the messages that don’t come, the silences that stretch longer than they used to, the feeling that maybe you’re no longer someone they carry in the back of their mind during their day. You still do. You still think of them when something funny happens, or when a song plays, or when the evening light hits your room just right. But maybe they don’t anymore. And that imbalance? It stings in places you didn’t even know existed.

You try to remind yourself .... people grow, people move on, people get busy. You chant it like a mantra, hoping it’ll hurt less. But deep down, you know it’s not just about them being busy. It’s about priority. Presence. Effort. The kind you gave so effortlessly even when your own world was crashing.

Still, you smile. Still, you text them when they cross your mind. Still, you hope. Because that's who you are .... the one who doesn’t unlove easily. The one who notices the small shifts before they become gaps. The one who quietly prepares for the day someone might leave, while secretly praying they won’t.

And maybe, in another universe, they’re feeling the same ...just as afraid to lose you. Or maybe not.

But either way, I’m learning. That people leaving isn’t always personal. That sometimes, we hold on with all our heart, and they still choose a different road. And sometimes, that’s what love looks like too .... letting go without bitterness, carrying their memories like soft songs, and choosing to stay kind.

Even when it breaks your heart.
